Artistically its beautiful!! The cool color scheme is well blended from the blue hues to the purple. The white outlines also add a nice touch and really make the image pop. Especially on the black lace. The water colored background is unique in its texture. The only thing that i see that is off...or looks out of place is the creases on the dress over her lap. It looks more like pants then a dress. I think it might be the way the fabric is wrinkled.Maybe instead of the wrinkles going in towards each other it could have spanned across the lap, it would still express the curvature and movement of the legs like you would like. NICE WORK!! Love to see more!

This is really lovely, and inspiring. I kind of want to pull out my watercolors and make something now. The colors are so vivid and the lady looks very very peaceful. So pretty and an instant :+fav:

salt?

LOL Everyone keeps asking about that!

The most obvious example of what you can do is salt is seen in the bottom of her dress (though I used it in the bg, too).

There I first applied a layer or violet ink, then I applied another layer of water to dillute the ink a bit, and sprinkled some ordinary kitchen salt over it. The result is obvious, lol.

The thing with the salt is - if you apply it to wet paint, it "attracts" the water (and also the paint in this water), thus forming cool textures. ^^ I learned this from =luciole.

lol

When the paint is still wet, if you sprinkle some salt over it, it attracts the water and creates some really nice textures. Look at the bottom of her dress. ^^ Once I applied a layer of ink, I applied a layer of clean water to dillute the ink, and sprinkled some salt over it. Nice effect, ne? ^^ I learned this from =luciole's tutorials.

I use plain old watercolors that kids use in school or kindergarden. XD You can buy those just about everywhere.

For the dress I used inks, though, and those are a bit more difficult to find. The kind that I use is Winsor&Newton, and they are not too cheap. (Not all that expensive, either, though.)

I have ink...but not waterproof I think D':
Anyways, at least I know I can watercolor with just kiddie supplies xD
Thanks :D

This is actually very lovely and definetly an improvement from over a year ago. Your style has very much matured and florished in a years time. :D

As for critiquing, I do like the white lines that accentuates the dress away from the pattern that you did beautifully with watercolors. I get a really dreamy sensation from the background which fits into your whole image so it was a well designed background. A very beautiful piece.

Good luck in the contest and .... you used salt? Awesome! :boogie:

Yup, the salt was a tip from :iconluciole:. While the paint is still wet, you sprinkle some salt over it, and it creates cool textures. (See her dress?) It was more difficult in her dress, as I used ink and not watercolors for it, so once I colored it with watercolors I dilluted some places with water and sprinkled salt over it. For some reason, though, I got the coolest effect at the bottom of the dress. ^^; And it wouldn't work quite the same way later, lol. God knows why.

As you already know, I love this! It's so beautiful! I love how you do backgrounds, your colours blends so lovely! :) The only thing I find a bit distracting is all your white lines, it feels like you went bit trigger happy with them, and it seems a bit crowded. I think fewer white lines would've added more of an impact, because it's such a pretty technique! :D

I feel her mouth is a bit high on her face, but considering just how low my mouths tend to get, I assume this is just a matter of style! :XD: Just thought I'd mention it anyway! ^^;

Oh, and those hanging stars and moons are so cute! I wish I could have some of those hanging over my bed, I'd be so awesome! :D

I actually agree with you on the white lines. XD It is just that my thin white gel pen dies, and I only had my thick one left, and I felt that with only a few thick white lines it looked weird. ^^; Meh, now it seems like it was a no-win situation. XD

I am glad you like it overall. ^^ Thank you for your criticism!
