Wow, this is one of rare images lately that I was really excited about!
I needed to draw something like this again
*ArtyAMG's contest just sounded so tempting, I had to give it a try! It was a good opportunity to challenge myself, have fun and not think about school and bad things for once. I hope my entry will be accepted, even though I already know I hardly have chances of winning, as there are already some really awesome entries.
Why Cosmos?
Well, I personally believe her to be the final incarnation of Usagi, and I believe everyone knows she is my fave heroine. Since I find Cosmos the most beautiful (apart from maybe Princes Serenity) of all Usagi's incarnations, I decided to draw her.
The design is only slightly adapted, otherwise just like the manga version.
I liked what !DracheaRannak once did with her cape, by making it transparent, so I did the same. In case this wins (by some miracle), the cape can be removed for the sculpture.
The lineart was done by hand first, but then edited a LOT in Photoshop before coloring. The coloring took longer than usual as I paid special attention to shading. I TRIED to have a defined light source. I have no idea whether I succeeded, but I tried.
As for the overall look and the shadow, I was inspired by old fighting games and such. XD You know, where you get to see your character in some sort of a dramatic, fighting pose.

I wanted her pose to be dynamic, and I also tried to create something that would look good as a sculpture. I don't know how much I succeeded in doing this, as I really don't know much about sculpting.
The hair... Yes, I know what I did is silly. But I found it cute. XD
As for why she isn't really holding her staff - I imagined this to be one of those magical Sailor Moon attacks where everything tends to float in the air. XD Including weapons.
The sparkles brushes in the cloak are by ~wentiisixx.
Overall I am really pleased with how it turned out and I had lots of fun working on it. And now I HAVE TO go study. Many tests upcoming next week. T_T

An older, more mature version of our very favorite Sailor Cosmos. I agree whole-heartedly, the hair gives her just a touch of innocence and I would absolutely love the shoes! Great job!
